2019-06-10 The Prophet's Vision

The Prophet’s Vision.

Job and I went to Smakt Art Route two years ago. We did another project then and just went out there, 6 km from Venray to see what they had there. We talked to Henk, the boss for the project, and asked if we could be inside next time. Now in January we got a message asking if we still wanted to attend.

I had almost forgot. It felt stupid to say ”no” now when they asked us. The thema was seeing, and what could we do, what could we dig up?

We decided to do it anyway. Brainstorming back and forth, many times and Job talked to Henk, and he ”no, this won’t work, that don’t fit, this remindes to much of the Carneval, that one to small, impossible… will just vanish in the landscape…” and so on.

Job and I had many and long conversations on phone, we tested ideas, strategies, costs and how long would it take to do this and how long to do that?

We ended up with a prefab box, 240 x 120 x 120 cm and boxes of tiles, glue and a pretty ok sketch. A simple sketch with a geometric base, all four sides the same more or less. Really simple colors and some small variations.

I came on Sunday afternoon and we started on Monday morning to work on our project. The name came up during the first days, the Prophet’s Vision, fantastic title actually. About seeing, seeing the future, seeing what’s happening in everyday life. The blessing of Technology, IT and AI.

The big greedy giant that see everything. The smart phone, we think we are on Internet, when we actually are watched every step we take, every person we interact with every transaction we make with money and so on…

It took us one week to make the the Prophet’s Vision, one week with ups and downs and hell of funny jokes and luaghters. Job and I have same screwed humor. That makes it easy to work.

On Monday, day eight, we had the Prophet moved out to location. Tuesday we had to rest. On Wensday we went out to make some last small adjustments. On bicycles we went out to Smakt everyday the rest of the week.

Holland is a bicycle country.  Very nice actually. Even if I dont’t like biking specially, rather walk, but in Holland it feels totally ok. The sun is shining and the wind carried us. Countryside with horses, cows, goats and sheep, even a hedgehog. Just like on Rembrandts or Vermeer times.

The opening on Thursday went away and the artsist’s party on Friday also went away. Fun. We took a long walkabout on the opening day and took another walkabout on Saturday. Many nice things. One lady had an interesting  project. A small room filled with things about her mother that has Alzheimer. Everything was clear then. But we needed the explanation.

I made a test there that she learnt from some people at the University. Amazing, it showed the feeling that Alzheimer people feel when they try to communicate. To draw a line around the paper following a special route. I was not aloud to look at the paper, just in the mirror. Absolutely insane. I can see my future I said many times.

She explained the difference between demented and Alzheimer. Didn’t make me much happier.

Jobs friend Peter Bults took these pictures, went out there with a drone and made a special suite of photos.

Henk asked us if we were happy with our artwork. Yes, of course I said, are you happy with our work I asked. Now we let the public decide he said. Ok fine I answered.
